Latin and Irish folklore are rich artistic traditions but unlikely partners. This doesn't seem to trouble Martin as he conjures and weaves a seamless thread of melodic ideas whose episodes are carefully stitched together with imaginative cadences and bridge passages. Opening with a majestic Irish ballad style which manages to combine the light and serious , it gradually ups the flow until it finally crosses the pond as it's affectionately known, arriving somewhere over the Andes with themes dancing around throughout the register in counterpoint to the earthy 6/8-3/4 so prominent in Latin music. In its unique way Lateire bridges an unlikely Latin and Celtic partnership singing and dancing with complexity, modesty and subtlety, highly recommended.
